Easy DIY Sunburn Remedies
- Posted on: Jul 30 2018
It’s not always easy to remember to reapply sunscreen when you’re having a blast on the beach vacation you’ve been waiting for all winter. Yes, winter seems so far away now that we’re in the high heat of summer, doesn’t it? But if you’re experiencing a painful red sunburn, you might be ready to pull out the winter clothes after all. While covering up will help you avoid sunburn, it won’t help your skin heal from the damage that’s already there.
Keep reading for some quick DIY healing remedies you can try while you’re out vacationing and in need of some soothing self-care.
Witch Hazel is great for all sorts of ailments, like swelling and bruising. It’s often used as a toner to help balance skin’s pH after using cleansers that remove makeup and grime from the day. Did you know that it’s also good for sunburn? Witch Hazel contains “tannins” which can help reduce swelling, help your skin heal itself, and even discourage bacteria. Soak a cotton pad and swipe it over the skin to start the healing process.
Obviously, getting out of the heat will help your skin feel better after a bad sunburn. Taking a cool shower or bath can help the heat dissipate faster and help you sleep better.
Stay Hydrated with Water
Drinking plenty of water will ensure that you stay hydrated and your skin’s healing function works properly. As soon as you notice a sunburn, skip the poolside margarita and opt for a big glass of water. Your skin cells will be able to recover from the burn faster, and you can start feeling better sooner.
Prevention is always best, and we recommend using proper SPF and UV protective clothing and gear while out. Using these remedies will help remove the sting and get you back out having fun.
