The idea of using your own blood platelets, concentrated in a centrifuge, to heal injury is nothing new. It’s called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and professional athletes have been fans of using PRP to help them overcome injury or help them return to action more quickly after surgery.
So, what if you applied the same line of thinking to your penis?
The result would be the Priapus Shot, or P Shot. The P Shot uses your own blood platelets to improve blood flow and stimulate tissue growth in the penis. Dr. Cheung offers the P Shot at Jessie Cheung, MD Dermatology & Laser Center.
What is the P Shot?
Named for Priapus, the Greek god of virility, the Priapus Shot uses a patient’s own blood platelets and stem cells to improve penile function. The P Shot procedure is a fast, painless injection intended for men to who have lost function due to an enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, drug side effects, conditions such as diabetes, or the after-effects from surgery. The P Shot can also be an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease.
Who is a good candidate for the P Shot?
Men with erectile dysfunction (ED) can be helped immensely by the P Shot. It’s estimated that 15-30 million American men have ED. Beyond having ED, most men have problems with their erections from time to time, particularly as they enter middle age. This can cause issues with relationships and self-esteem.
Also, the P Shot can help men with various physical problems, such as an enlarged prostate or diabetes. It can also counteract certain drug reactions and the adverse affects following prostate cancer treatment.
What is the P Shot procedure?
The P Shot is based around the healing power of human blood platelets, which are responsible for wound healing and tissue regeneration after injury. You think of platelets for their power to form a blood clot on a wound, but they have vast restorative function, as well. For the P Shot, we take those platelets and concentrate them to form a powerful, enhancing injection.
First we need to get some blood to make the PRP. We take a small sample of blood, about the same amount taken for routine blood tests. We place the blood in a centrifuge that separates out the platelets, stem cells, plasma, and white blood cells, but removes the red blood cells. What is left is super-concentrated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) that has extensive healing and regeneration capabilities.
We apply local numbing anesthetic to your penis, and then inject the PRP into the various parts of your penis that are critical to sexual arousal and erectile function. The entire process takes around 30 minutes.
In addition to the P Shot, we also provide you with a vacuum penis pump. After you receive the P Shot, you use this pump to stretch the tissues of your penis. This pumping action stimulates the PRP and other ingredients in the P Shot to initiate the regenerative process, and it can help increase girth and length.
What are the benefits of the P Shot?
Although results vary by the patient, there are a variety of benefits for our P Shot patients:
- Increase in circulation within the penis
- Increase in sensation
- Stronger erections
- Increased duration of erections
- Increase in length
- Increase in width
Is the P Shot painful?
There is no pain involved. We use topical lidocaine to make the penis numb prior to injecting the PRP. Plus, Dr. Cheung uses a very small needle for the injections.
How quickly will I see results?
Improvements in erection quality and duration are immediate. Noticeable increases in size will take a few weeks to allow for tissue regeneration and other growth factors to take effect. Results are variable between patients.
How much increase in size can I expect?
Size increase is variable between patients, depending on how the body responds to the PRP. But after around three weeks, it is not unusual for a patient to report a noticeable increase in length, along with increased girth.
What are the side effects of the P Shot?
Platelet-rich plasma is made from your own blood, so when it is reinjected in the P Shot, there aren’t any side effects or reactions. This is a simple procedure with impressive results.
How many P Shots will I need?
Generally, this is a one-time procedure. However, depending on your testosterone levels and background health, Dr. Cheung may recommend another p-shot and/or other treatment for male enhancement, such as testosterone therapy or laser rejuvenation.
